Welcome Parents, Teachers, and Community Leaders,
My name is Sharill Cortez and I am the proud principal of Central Elementary School. I am excited to begin this school year and look forward to working closely with our staff members, families, and the community.
As a former public school student myself, I strive to provide our EUSD students with the best educational experience. Furthermore, this sentiment stems from personal experience, as I was raised by a single mother who endlessly emphasized the importance of an education and ensured my younger sister and I attended the best public school in the area. She also emphasized the importance of attaining good grades and earning a college degree. Consequently, I graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor's in English, followed by a Master's Degree in Education, obtained a second Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Concordia University, and most recently earned a Doctorate from Concordia University. I learned that through hard work and dedication, anyone can achieve the goals they have set out to accomplish. All one needs to do to ensure this happens is to believe in oneself.
Here at Central, I rely on the leadership of the caring teachers and staff to provide optimal educational opportunities for all of our students. In addition, I will make certain all classrooms are filled with rich learning, a nurturing environment, and 21st Century Skills. Initiatives such as the Learning Model, Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS), Dweck's Mindset research, and implementing Professional Learning Community (PLC) will serve as reinforcement tools to support our students' success. I know all of our students can succeed, and through our students' and staff's hard work and perseverance, coupled with my guidance, care, and support, I am committed to ensure this happens.
My mantra is the following: Central Elementary School will not only work to instill an educational confidence in students, but a prolonged personal confidence in ALL students.
Sincerely,
Dr. Sharill Cortez
